What is a Podcast?


Podcasting is derived from combining the word iPod with the word Broadcasting. 

  •  It is an audio recording available on the Internet. 

  • They can be listened to on a computer or downloaded to an mp3 player. 

  • Can be audio only or include video

Why Should I learn to Podcast?

Where do I Begin?

Podcasting can range from simply picking up a phone and talking into it (like an answering machine) to a more advanced video presentation, depending on your equipment, time and expertise.  Below is the simples form of getting started.  As you increase your comfort level, so too will you increase your desire to go farther.  Technology should assist instruction, be easy to use, and benefit the overall goal.

Podcasting with a Telephone- Dial a toll free number and record your podcast from any telephone.

  •     Gabcast - Sign up required, no fee

Podcasting with a Mac
  • Access to a computer with a built-microphone (or purchase a microphone for your computer)
  • Internet connection
  • Webcam or built in camera (only required for video podcasts)
  • Service to create your podcast
    • Audacity
    • GarageBand-part of the iLife Software
    • Podcast Producer - Must have a Apple Leopard Server

Podcasting with a PC-

What you need:
  • Access to a computer with a built-microphone (or purchase a microphone for your computer)
  • Internet connection
  • Webcam or built in camera (only required for video podcasts)
  • Service to create your podcast
