CTAP FAQ
Q. What is the difference between proficiency levels I, II and III?Here is the short explanation: Level I demonstrates your personal proficiency with a computer. Your portfolio will contain proof that your school can count on you to use basic applications and research tools at a level required for a teacher. Level II is a professional proficiency, which means that you are able to teach the same things to students that you demonstrated for yourself in Level I. Level III is for leaders and mentors who want to help other educators become proficient in technology. We often use Level III educators as trainers or presenters. Level III educators have the authority to certify Level I and Level II portfolios.
Q. I already know how to use a computer. Why do I need my CTAP certificate?
Your portfolio is the proof of that. You are welcome to use materials in your portfolio that you have already created, or to create materials (we call them artifacts) that you will use in your classroom. If you create or collect artifacts that you can use, the process will be more rewarding. There is no test to take to "challenge" CTAP certification. We simply certify the work presented in your portfolio.
Q. What is CTAP, anyway?
CTAP stands for the California Technology Assistance Project. It is a state funded agency which works with county offices of education to provide technology support for school districts. CTAP supports grant writing, technology plans, in-service education and cooperates with other agencies to train and certify teachers and students in credentialing programs. CTAP also collaborates with districts, universities and other organizations in a variety of projects that serve schools and communities. CTAP helps schools use the technology they have to support teaching and learning of education standards.
Q. Do I have to take a class? I already know all this stuff!
CTAP offers face to face workshops, web resources and online courses if you need training for certification. If it is only the certification that you need for credentialing or course credit from a university, you may choose to complete your portfolio without extra support and have us certify it.
Q. How do I contact the CTAP office?
Please feel free to email us or call our office at (661) 636-4542
Q. I'm in a credential program. How do I prove to them I have passed my CTAP proficiencies?
When a Level III mentor or leader signs your portfolio application form (see the page of Important Documents) you may take that form to your credential program. A certificate will be mailed to the address on the application form in a few weeks.
Q. I don't have a regular classroom. How am I going to be able to do CTAP II?
