Proficiency 2.8 -- Overview of the Proficiency:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the legal and ethical issues concerned with the use of computer-based technology.

Include a sample student AUP. Write a narrative detailing how you have addressed all of the following issues with your students:

• Intellectual property concerns.
• Privacy concerns.
• Copyright issues.
• Security and safety issues.
• Use of proper “net etiquette”.
• School's/district's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).

• Appropriate citation of resources.

  • Three major concerns are addressed in this proficiency:
    • Appropriate educational use
    • Student safety
    • Copyright issues
  • This proficiency includes a narrative that addresses the perspective of student/staff safety along with the district AUP and software guidelines.
  • For the non-traditional teacher, the following examples could be included:
    • The band or music teacher may address copyright issues with music.
    • The science or history teacher may address copyright issues with photographs or other graphic material.
    • The English teacher may address copyright issues with writing passages.
