Level Two FAQ
Q: I don't teach in a traditional classroom! How can I expect to meet the requirements of the proficiencies when so many of them deal with classroom instruction?
A: The level two proficiencies require that you have contact with students in an instructional role, but that does not mean it needs to be a traditional classroom. If you are, for example, a school counselor, you have opportunities to meet with students individually and cover topics like career or higher education opportunities, which have an abundance of technology-based resources.
Q: What if I don't have any students?
A: If your position is in a support or special project area, you may have the opportunity to meet with a variety of students on your campus, or even visit a classroom and teach a lesson. Be sure to discuss all your options with your instructor. There are options!
Q: There isn't a woking computer in my instructional area. What do I do?
A: Let's say, for example, that you are a P.E. teacher and your athletic field is not outfitted with computers. Think about options that still serve your content area. Could you take your class to the library or a lab for research in Physical Education? Can you teach related content, like human anatomy or nutrition? Collaboration with other P.E. Teachers who have achieved their proficiency will help you develop workable solutions.
